The Christmas season is a special time that’s filled with love, peace and happiness. Yes, it really is. But the behind the scenes of it… well, that’s a whole nother story. I don’t know about you, but I know for me, it’s so easy to get wrapped up in all the work involved in getting ready for Christmas that I sometimes forget to relax and have fun too. All the extra activities and parties, shopping, extra cooking and baking on top of all the regular stuff that has to be done every day can leave very little time to just sit down, relax and enjoy the special moments.
Those special moments are the things you don’t want to miss out on
because those special moments are the key to the memories we hold in our hearts.
So when you’re tired and you want to just roll that candy cane cookie dough into balls instead of taking the time to form them into candy cane shapes, but your daughter wants to make them into candy canes because to her a candy cane cookie just isn’t a candy cane cookie unless it’s shaped like a candy cane, you go ahead and let her do it.
Then you see the joy in her face and realize the little extra time it took was worth it…
There’s cleaning to be done, gifts to be wrapped, food to be made… but all of that can wait
because there’s a special party that needs to take place.
It’s a Christmas party for your daughter’s cats because she saved her tooth fairy money and allowance to buy the perfect gifts and wrap them for her favorite little pets. The party took place a day earlier than planned because well, you know how cats are… they got impatient and just couldn’t wait a single minute longer to open their gifts. Of course, the kids could wait… the cats just talked them into it. 😉
So you sit down, watch the party and smile as your heart is filled with more precious memories…
The baking is done and the mess cleaned up, but there’s about to be another mess
because gingerbread houses still need to be made.
This year the gingerbread houses were almost forgotten. But then, when your daughter remembers they still haven’t been made, you make a special trip in to town to get them. Then you grab an extra one as a surprise so that her cousin can make one with her.
Seeing their faces light up and watching the creativity and joy they shared as they made them together was a special moment for me as well as for them…
Just remember, no matter how busy things get or how much stuff still needs to be done, take a moment to stop and enjoy those special moments because those are the things that memories are made of.
