Good Bye Winter, Hello Spring! Back To Normal on The Homestead!

Spring is finally here and we’re so excited! We’re starting to change from our winter set up to our spring and summer set up. It feels good to start having things back to normal again.

2nd Week of Vlogmas On the Homestead! Week 50 2018

Christmas is sneaking up on us fast! So much to do and so little time! Dylan came out and brought his gifts, so Miley and Brooke try to figure out what he got them.

The kids check the rabbits to see if they can tell if they are pregnant and we check the goats to see if we can tell if they’re close to kidding. What do we think? Well, you’ll just have to watch…

Join us while we decorate gingerbread houses!

Why do I have 2 pitchforks that I’m using? I don’t really have an answer to that, but one thing we know for sure is that no pitchfork goes unused.

It’s one of those days, ya know, the kind where you start out behind and are rushing the whole day.

In this video we show you how we build an easy, affordable hay feeder that would work for goats, sheep or calves.

We gave the goats an early Christmas present and built a little goat hut for the goat kids to stay warm in once they are born. What did we give the goats for Christmas? Well.. you’ll just have to watch…

We’re Doing Vlogmas! A Video Every Day Till Christmas! Week 49 2018

Just a little randomness about the goats, Ollie, our strange choice of Vlogmas topics and how we really need to make an effort to support local businesses.

This video is about how to can turkey broth using a Carey Smart Canner. There is some confusion when it comes to venting time because a lot of people mistake the E10 count down as venting time but it’s not. In this video I explain why.

I’m getting a big pot of turkey broth started, we’re taking the dog to the vet, and I’m getting my hair permed.. whew, what a long day!

The dog: “Merry Christmas!”
Us: “Eeewww… No THANKS!”

I joined a collaboration by Rose over at Wholesome Roots where we talk about 5 reasons why we homestead.

Our buck is finally old enough to breed, so the kids decided it was time to introduce him to the does. We should be having new kits by the New Year!

It’s that time of the year when leaves have been raked, bagged and put out by the curb for pickup. They make an excellent free mulch to add to the garden, so we’re wanting to gather as many bags as we can before the city workers pick them up. It’s always tricky to gather enough free mulch to cover our garden, so getting this trailer full is all I want for Christmas!

Homegrown Turkey vs Store Bought, Thanksgiving Preparations and More! Week 47 2018

It’s Thanksgiving day on the homestead and there’s lots going on! Miley gives you an up close view of bunny cuteness and we see if we can tell a difference in taste between a store bought and homegrown turkey. So, did we find a difference? Well, you’ll just have to watch…

Everyone is off and home for Thanksgiving.. we’re getting last minute preparations done… let the fun times making more memories with family begin…

It’s time to thaw out the turkeys! This year we’re fixing both, a store bought and a homegrown, so that way we can compare.

It’s once again that time of the year….

A Celebration of the Day We Moved to the Homestead and More! Week 46 2018

For some reason our electricity went out so the day gets off to a slow start and we’re making up a batch of fire cider to have ready for when the cold season begins.

We feel sad as our growing season officially ends, but a new season brings snowballs, ice and a new routine to look forward to.

November 15th is a special day for us. It’s the day we make chili, gather around the table and celebrate one of the best moments in our life.

It’s the first snow of the year and Miley’s doing the vlogging. The snow isn’t sticking and it’s more wet and cold than anything else… it’s just cold and she’s wanting to be done with it!

Camera Broke But Now We’re Back With Homestead Updates! Week 43 2018

We’re outside enjoying the nice fall weather and giving you an update on our fall garden.

Well, I finally got another camera so we’re excited to get back to vlogging again. We’re starting off with a full animal update cause a lot has happened in the last several weeks.

A Day In the Life, When It Rains It Pours and When It Pours It Floods and More! Week 37 2018

Oh my, got a ton of rain and more flooding than we’ve ever seen!

It poured rain, our tents got wet, so we came up with a new plan… and now we kinda question our sanity!

We had a large basil harvest so I tested out a quick way to dry it. While I canned tomatoes Brooke finished setting up her aquarium and now it’s finally time to show you!

Cleaning rabbit cages, harvesting tomatoes, gathering eggs, taking the goat for a walk, finishing up the 4H record book… it’s just another day on the homestead.

Full Homestead Update and Is Raising Turkeys Really Worth It? Week 34 2018

Is raising turkeys worth it for us? Well, to find out the answer you’ll just have to watch…

I’m finally getting my life back in sync after the fair so I thought I’d give you an update of the homestead and after this, hopefully get back to normal vlogging schedule.
