Results of My Egg Storing Experiment, Garden Experiments, Halloween and More! Week 44 2018

I have an hour before I need to start fixing supper so I decided to get 3 things done that I’ve been putting off. One of those is dealing with the eggs I stored for winter, and if you’d like to know how that experiment turned out… well you’ll just have to watch….

It’s Halloween, one of Miley’s favorite times! She’s getting her chores done quickly so she can enjoy the rest of the day, but as you know, there’s never a dull moment on the homestead so chores didn’t go as quickly as she planned!

My mom rooted some tomato clippings and shared some with me. I’m planting them and experimenting with growing them through the winter. Experimenting in the garden is fun!

For you egg storage. Use water glass (not pickling lime) and don’t wash the eggs before you store them. Washing the eggs first removes the protective coating that nature put on the eggs. Water glass (sodium silicate) will keep eggs good for months if you have a cool place to store them. One thing, it is best to boil the water that you mix with the water glass so it is sterilized. You can Google “water glass eggs” for info on how to do this. Sodium silicate is available by the gallon and is quite reasonably priced.
