We were surprised when we found our hen with chicks under her, then we were even more surprised when we found another hen hatching more chicks. Now that these chicks are growing, they surprised us once again…
The best memories are made when the family gets together.
The mosquitoes have been horrible here lately, in fact it seems like they’re worse than usual. We don’t like using chemical sprays so we’re looking for the best natural bug spray that actually works. If you have a great recipe that you don’t mind sharing, we’d really appreciate it.
Games, a Splatoon cake, a treasure hunt, swimming, fireworks and a campout… Happy 11th Birthday, Miley!
It’s my favorite time of the year when it comes to fixing meals because the garden is starting to kick in so more and more goodies become available from the garden.
The rain we’ve been having has been great for the garden so I thought I’d give ya a little update…
Today we’re moving our goats to new pasture! But.. being creatures of habit, will they stay out there?
After a lot of rain our alfalfa grew back and we were able to get it swathed and baled. We didn’t get many bales but the quality was better than we normally get. No matter the amount, hay bales in the barn makes us happy!
It’s been super hot and humid but good thing about that is the cucumbers grow great in those conditions. So now we have enough to ferment!
We made a turkey tractor and built it similar to the chicken tractor we made last year… just made it a little taller for the turkeys. Today we’re moving the poults into it and then moving the mama hen and her chicks into the old tractor.
The squash bugs have returned! Out of all the garden pests, I have to say they are the most frustrating to deal with… and the most creepy! I had a huge infestation on one of my plants and got creeped out, so I blasted them with spray. Next thing I knew, I used a whole half gallon on one plant. Good news is there were dead squash bugs when I was finished… but will my plant survive having that much neem oil on it?
Happy 4th of July and a quick update.
We’re tired of the hens roosting on their nesting boxes and pooping in them so we’re trying something different… but will they like it?
When life gets busy, its important to slow down and take a moment to pause and look around… you’ll be surprised by all the little things you’ve overlooked.
The kids take over the vlog today and take you along while they pick mulberries to make a pie. One problem… someone ate all the mulberries so we couldn’t make a pie!
We tried a new breed of chicken this year which is the Polish. They’re cute, lovable and fun to watch but we don’t recommend them to someone who wants to let their chickens free range. Here’s why…
The kids challenged each other to see who could solve the Hanayama Enigma puzzle first with the loser having to sit in a tub of ice water. Brooke started out far ahead… Dylan caught up and managed to pull off a win. He happily fixes up a tub of ice water just for her…
In order to show chickens at the fair, they have to be tested for Pullorum Typhoid and Avian Flu. Normally they’re tested the day we take them to the fair but this year we had to get it done earlier so that meant we had to take them on a little road trip.
Our turkey hen is laying again so we decided we should move her back over with our tom. Someone figured out the Enigma Hanayama puzzle… so that means someone has to sit in a tub of ice water.
The kids challenged themselves to see who would be the first to solve the Enigma Hanayama cast puzzle, which is one of the most difficult ones. The challenge continues…
Brooke and Dylan battle it out to see who can solve the Extremely difficult Hanayama Enigma puzzle first. Looser has to sit in a tub of ice water! Who Wins? Well, you’ll just have to watch…
We have an awesome surprise in the garden… it’s something Miley has been waiting for for a long time.
More chicks have hatched… where do we keep them? Who should do the chores… should they be considered rabbit chores or chicken chores?
One hen and her chicks… another broody hen hatching out chicks… a stormy night… where should we put all these chicks?
Finally got my garden in and mulched so I thought I’d give you a tour of it while it’s still looking good.
