Well, as you can tell, I took a little break from here. It wasn’t an intentional break, it just kinda happened. Things got busy, life happened, and before I knew it days had passed by before I even had a chance to finish a sentence, let alone a whole post. It’s been one of those crazy summers where no matter how hard I work it just seems like I can’t get ahead. We’ve had some big changes happen with my son moving out and my older daughter working more hours. With them both not around as much and not being able to help out with chores like they used to, we’ve had to make some adjustments and get into a new routine. It’s been a fun, exciting, yet challenging time as we start this new chapter of our life.
There are lots of new things to tell you about and I’ve been working on getting some new posts ready. Here’s a peak at a few of the upcoming topics:
The garden… where to I start?
As you can see, it’s taken on a life of its own. Yikes! This summer we’ve had more rain than usual. That combined with heat, humidity and being swarmed by mosquitoes (no matter how much repellent we put on) made for a bad combination to keep the weeds under control. On the positive side, the vegetables are still doing well and we’re still picking quite a bit. The popcorn even looks like it’s getting close to being ready to be picked, which is pretty exciting because we didn’t really plan on it producing anything… be sure to check back for an update about that soon!
With all the rain we’ve had our alfalfa has really grown, so we had it swathed the other day.
The pasture where the goats graze has also grown so fast that we decided to have it swathed. We’re just waiting for it to dry out enough, after getting rained on, to be baled.
Look who’s growing up…
our baby guinea keets! Be sure to check back for an update on how many survived and how they are doing!
I’ve been having tomato troubles…
the vines were dying off. Aren’t they pitiful looking? I’ve done a ton of research and have been treating them with all sorts of stuff and surprisingly, they have lots of new growth and new tomatoes setting on. Look for a new post about that coming up next!
Summer time… it’s a busy time… and a fun time. How has your summer been?
