Preparing for Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, I decided I better start planning our menu. Since Thanksgiving is our first big meal after spending the summer harvesting crops, canning and tending to our animals, I think it’s always fun to see how many homegrown things we can use for our meal. Today I rounded up what we have, that way I can make a list and get the things we still need…

We have turkey, green beans, sweet potatoes, pickled okra, tomatoes and apple pie, which is a good start to having what we need for our meal.

Our Thanksgiving menu:

Turkey

Mashed potatoes and gravy

Green beans

Sweet potatoes

Pickled okra

Stuffing

Lettuce salad

Cranberry Ice

Jello salad

Rolls

Apple pie

This year I’m cooking the turkey, green beans, sweet potatoes and stuffing. Mom is making the mashed potatoes and gravy, apple pie, lettuce salad, cranberry ice and jello salad. My sisters are bringing rolls, side dishes and dessert. Yum… can’t wait for Thanksgiving!

One of our family favorite dishes, that’s tradition to make every year is Cranberry Ice. It goes way back several generations on my mom’s side and Thanksgiving without it is just not Thanksgiving at all at our house. Be sure to check back soon for the recipe.

What’s on your menu this Thanksgiving? What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Sounds like a delicious meal! Yummy!

I caught a bug and am tired. Russ had to work. So our Thanksgiving was a bit odd. I managed to get some energy and took Kiyah with me to the store. She chose enchiladas, pumpkin pie and vanilla ice cream, stuffing, “smashed potatoes,” a chocolate bar, and sparkling soda. I added peas. And that was Thanksgiving dinner. We were thankful to be together, despite Russ leaving for work at 1:00pm. It was a great day-:)

That’s too bad you caught a bug! Hope you are feeling better now! Sounds like you had a perfectly awesome Thanksgiving meal! That will probably be a Thanksgiving you guys will remember forever, especially Kiyah, since she got to pick it out! 🙂 Those smashed potatoes are always the best. 😉
